Ann Arbor keeps finding itself atop national lists.
One day after being ranked as No. 13 on the "Top Places to Live" list, the city was named by WalletHub.com as the most educated city in America. Ann Arbor-area residents were also ranked second in terms of overall quality of education.
WalletHub analyzed the 150 largest metropolitan statistical areas in the United States based on two key dimensions: education level and quality of education in order to determine its rankings.
Education level was determined using the following criteria, with Ann Arbor's ranking in parenthesis: percentage of high school diploma holders (third); percentage of college-experienced adults or associate's degree holders (first); percentage of bachelor's degree holders (first); highest percentage of graduate or professional degree holders (first); highest number of doctors per capita (fourth); and highest percentage of workers with computer, engineering and science jobs (third).
The quality of education was determined by public school system ranking, average quality of universities and the number of students enrolled in the top-200 universities per capita.
"Research has shown that skilled workers who are also degree holders tend to pump the most money into their local economies over time," the report reads.
"A city's prosperity, one then can assume, depends in large part on the productivity of its educated citizens."
