CBS 62 Presents 'The Health Care Act And You -- 'An Eye On The Future' Special On 'Obamacare'

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) passed by Congress and signed by President Barack Obama as the law of the land in 2010 is about to descend into your home, your business, your community.
The ACA (or 'Obamacare' as it is sometimes called) is intended to make healthcare more affordable and available to many including those who have never had it.
It's generated its share of headlines with fans and critics lining up.
How will the ACA impact you?
The award-winning "Eye on the Future " team of Senior Producer/Host Carol Cain and Chief Videographer Paul Pytlowany traveled the state for this 30-minute special and talked to leaders in healthcare, business and government to bring you some answers.
"With healthcare reform a critical issue for our region and state, it's important to help people learn as much as they can about these important changes," said Tom Canedo, Vice President and General Manager of CBS 62/CW50.
October 1 is when the new internet health marketplace exchange created under the ACA opens in Michigan and in every state.
Just as two other social programs, Social Security and Medicare, intended to help Americans, the Affordable Care Act's goal is to help people by making healthcare more affordable.
Will it accomplish that goal?
All agree the ACA will have a profound impact on families, young people, seniors, business owners, doctors, hospitals and those who have never had insurance.

Patrick Colbeck, Michigan Community Health Department Director Jim Haveman, Beaumont Health System President and CEO Gene Michalski, Michigan Business and Professional Association President Jennifer Kluge, University of Michigan Health System CEO Dr. Ora Pescovitz, Nancy Schlichting, CEO of Henry Ford Health System, and AARP's Barbara Spreitzer Berent.
"The Health Care Act and You'" will feature compelling vignettes on families and businesses impacted by ACA.
